I DEEPLY consider music as a part of my life as I usually listen to soothing melodies every day to help me feel relax. And among all types of music, I prefer listening to jazz, bosanova, reggae and pop. Sadly though, I wasn’t gifted with a golden voice so I am left with no choice but just to listen, and not to sing along.

Although I am not a singer by heart, I am a full-pledge music lover.

There are times I even consider enrolling in a music school so I could learn even the basics of the craft.

Luckily now, there is one school in Cagayan de Oro that primarily offers voice lessons.

The Center for Voice, located at the second floor of Gabor-Velez Bldg. in Kauswagan, also offers piano and guitar lessons.

Owned and managed by a young dashing bachelor, the Center for Voice offers exciting opportunities for performance and music education.

Roy Edward J. Sinco, a professional singer, composer and pianist, is out to share his talent to musically-inclined individuals through the Center for Voice, the first music school in Cagayan de Oro that specializes in voice.

Roysays the Center for Voice would be a good venue for Kagay-anons to hone their talents and excel as he earlier saw their potentials in all areas of music.

The youngest of three siblings, Roy has shown his singing ability at age two, which his parents, Jun and Dr. Josie Sinco, and two other brothers has painstakingly nurtured.

Born on May 28, 1979 in Pasay City, Roy finished his elementary and secondary education at the Pasay City Academy (PCA) and Parsipanny High School in New Jersey.

In 1997, his family transferred to Cagayan de Oro and enrolled him at the Xavier University where he took up B.S. Biology and later shifted to B.S. Nursing at STI College.

While studying at the Pasay City Academy, Roy became a member of the PCA Elementary Choir from grades one to four and the Young Ambassadors for Christ from Grade four until high school.

He also became a member of the Advent Young Ambassador for Christ and the Vissionaires, a trio of musically-gifted high school students of PCA.

As member of the Young Ambassadors for Christ, he did numerous concerts at the Folk Arts Theater, PICC and Philam Life Theater and had a concert tour in key cities of the United States such as Indianapolis, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, in 1990.

In the same year, the Young Ambassadors’ first album titled “Let There Be Praise” was recorded and released.

When he was 12 years old, Roy recorded and released his first solo album titled “Here’s My Life.”

In 1995, the Vissionaires also went on a concert tour in some key cities of the United States.

When his family transferred to Cagayan de Oro, Roy started to make his presence felt by performing in weddings and various corporate and professional functions, held Valentine shows and had gigs in hotels, particularly Mulberry Suites.

While studying Nursing at STI, Roy penned the school’s Capping and Badging song for the College of Nursing.

In 2009, he took a break from his singing stints in the city and went to Thailand where he performed as singer-pianist at Shangrila Hotel.

After a year, he returned home and established the Center for Voice in an effort to help budding musicians in the city hone their talents.

Roysays he was privileged to have been tutored by Prof. Sheryl Ann Botabara and Mrs. Mercy Lyn Andalis and further honed his talent at Ryan Cayabyab Music Studio, the Center for Pop Music Philippines and Philippine Women’s University.

A singer, composer and pianist, Roy has composed several religious and inspirational songs for recording, which would be released anytime soon.

At 31, Roy has certainly inked a name in the local music scene. And don’t expect him to stop singing as he wants to share his talent to those who are willing to learn the craft through the Center for Voice.

As a singer, he dreamt of developing young individuals to become singing ambassadors and spread messages of hope, peace and Christian love through songs.

“It has always been my belief that if a person can talk, he or she can definitely sing because singing is just talking with a tune,” he says as he also dreamt of making voice as an effective instrument to wash away the dusts of everyday life from the souls of adults.

With the Center for Voice, talented Kagay-anons need not go to Manila to train in schools with quality programs as Cagayan de Oro is proud to have this Center which offers programs at par, if not better, since Roy has created an approach that is both scientific and technical – a fusion of his formal trainings, professional experiences and advanced materials in vocal mastery.

Supporting Roy in molding would-be musicians at the Center for Voice are keyboardist Roy Cosing and classical guitarist Bebs Vasquez.
