HEAVY rains caused by a shallow-low pressure area triggered flooding in four towns in Misamis Oriental, forcing evacuation of 115 families to safer grounds on Tuesday.
The provincial disaster council identified the areas affected as Barangay Kabog in the town of Medina; Barangays Lumbo and Dampil, both of Lagonglong; Barangay River 2 in Salay; and Barangay Mandangoa in Balingasag, all coastal towns east of Misamis Oriental.
Flooding in these areas occurred when the rivers overflowed due to continues rain Monday.
Rampaging flood damaged a levee in Barangay Lumbo, while a road in Barangay Mandangoa became impassable.
The Office of the Civil Defense informed the province of the low pressure, prompting the monitoring of all disaster prone areas.
On Wednesday, all evacuees returned to their homes under strict instruction to be alert and be ready to adopt usual preventive measures should similar incident occurred in the future, the disaster council said.
