A WOMAN filed a complaint before police authorities after she lost more than P100,000 worth of cash and valuables to members of alleged “budol-budol” gang in Barangay Carmen on Wednesday morning.
Milagros Evangelista Basilan, 68, a resident of 199 Trinity Tree St. in Carmen, said two males and two females duped her of her earrings worth P10,000, wristwatch worth P4,000 and P100,000 cash that she just withdrew from Banco de Oro.
She said the suspects entrusted to her a bag with alleged P1 million inside in exchange for her cash and valuables.
Senior Police Officer 1 Mary Chell Mata of Police Station 4 said the suspects might have already observed Basilan prior to the incident.
She said the suspects invited Basilan to eat with them at Jollibee and withdraw the cash at Banco de Oro afterwards.
Mata said the suspects might have used two identical bags where Basilan’s cash and valuables and the P1 million were separately placed.
She said the suspects left the bag with the alleged P1 million cash and Basilan’s valuables and told her to wait. But they never returned.
Basilan later opened the bag and saw a P20 bill inside.
Mata said members of “budol budol” gang usually victimize old people since they can easily be fooled.
Because of this, police operatives cautioned the public against talking to strangers.
The case is now forwarded to the Police Anti-Theft and Robbery Section for investigation.
