Foreign donors distribute relief goods

REPRESENTATIVES from Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) visited Cagayan de Oro on Sunday and distributed relief goods at the evacuation center in Barangay Bulua.
The team from QRCS was with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), local government officials and Red Cross from Isabela Province during its visit. The group distributed relief goods like sanitation kits comprise of toilet papers, napkin, blanket, towel, toiletries and water containers.
Dr. Urduja Cariño of PRC said the QRCS also visited the areas in the city affected by Tropical Storm Sendong to assess the situation and to know what assistance they can provide to the people.
“They assess the needs of the affected people like on shelter and any other materials like sanitation and hygiene kits, kitchen kits,” Cariño said.
The relief operation was joined by PRC chairman Richard Gordon, Rasheed Muhammed of QRCS, Dr. Amer R. Melhem of QRCS Disaster Management Coordinator, Red Cross representatives from Isabela Province, Mayor Amelita Navarro of Santiago City, Isabela and other international friends of Red Cross.
The QRCS and PRC are members of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC).
Gordon said Navarro has donated P1 million for “Sendong” victims in Cagayan de Oro.
“The people affected by Tropical Storm Sendong will rise again with dignity. Babangon tayo. Hindi tayo patatalo,” he said.
Gordon said he will return this week for another visit in typhoon-affected areas. (Michael Andrew W. Yu)
