Lawyer, son died of suffocation: investigators

CAGAYAN DE ORO -- The Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) said Thursday that the lawyer who allegedly shot his three-year-old son before shooting himself early this week died of suffocation, not of gunshot wounds.

Senior Inspector Arnold Bernabe Bustarde of Soco said based on autopsy result, the victims -- Ray Vernie Fabre and his three-year-old son Arvy -- have no gunshot wounds.

Mayor mulls naming infrastructures in Oro

Board approves hazardous waste disposal law

THE Provincial Board of Misamis Oriental approved on Monday a resolution urging all local chief executives of the province, the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to regularly monitor and conduct surprise inspection to all public and private hospitals in the province to ensure proper disposal of hazardous wastes.

Board Member Jimmy E. Caiña, who authored the resolution, said among the hazardous wastes that should be disposed of properly are mercury, asbestos, cyanides and its compounds.

Lawmakers mull setting up of organ donations, transplant office

TWO lawmakers are proposing for the establishment of a national agency that will serve as an essential office for organ donations and transplant in the country.

Representative Rufus B. Rodriguez (2nd district, Cagayan de Oro) and Representative Maximo Rodriguez (Abante Mindanao party-list) authored House Bill (HB) 5390 which will be known as “Organ Donation Act of 2011.”

NGOs to focus on ‘non-combat’ in Army’s ‘bayanihan’ plan

Tunnel discovered near Cagayan de Oro jail

CAGAYAN DE ORO -- Jail authorities managed to prevent a possible escape of inmates at the Cagayan de Oro City Jail in Lumbia following the discovery of an 86-meter tunnel under construction near the jail complex Tuesday afternoon.

City Jail Warden Superintendent Clint Russel Tangeres said the two-meter-wide tunnel is nearly complete when it was discovered.

Another Oro resident positive of HIV

ANOTHER male Kagay-anon is confirmed to have been infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), bringing to 27 the total number of persons in Cagayan de Oro who are infected with the virus.

This new development has reportedly prompted the Local Aids Council (LAC) to strengthen its campaign against HIV, the disease that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome.

Immigration lists 6 undesirable aliens in NorMin

AT LEAST six foreign nationals have been included in the list of undesirable aliens of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Northern Mindanao as of October 31.

In his report to the Regional Law Enforcement and Coordinating Committee (RLECC), Florentino Diputado, alien control officer of BI in Northern Mindanao, said two of these undesirable aliens are Swedish nationals identified as Emil Andrea Solemo and Bo Stefan Sederholm who were convicted of Qualified Trafficking in Persons under Republic Act (RA) 9208.

CAGAYAN DE ORO -- A lawyer allegedly shot his three-year-old son before shooting himself on Tuesday morning in Zone 2, Barangay Bayabas, this city.

The lawyer was identified by his younger brother as Ray Vernie Fabre, 41, a resident of Zone 5, Barangay Bonbon, who was with his son Arvy. They were found beyond recognition inside their vehicle when it burned after it overheated.

80 NPA rebels surrender

MARAMAG, Bukidnon -- At least 80 members of the New People’s Army (NPA), operating in San Fernando, Bukidnon, voluntarily surrendered to the government Tuesday inside the 8th Infantry Battalion’s (IB) camp of the Philippine Army at South Poblacion here.

3 die in vehicular accident

THREE men died while three others were injured when the multicab they were riding collided with a trailer truck on Friday dawn in Zone 4, Barangay Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City.

The fatalities were identified as Carlito Muga, 50; Ronel Akyatan, 31; and a certain Nelcar Licuanan, 28, all residents of Barangay Damilag, Manolo Fortich in Bukidnon. The three didn't reach the hospital alive due to severe injuries.

Cops nab suspected drugs dealer

TWO suspected dealers of illegal drugs were arrested by joint elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Northern Mindanao and Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office in separate buy-bust operations in Misamis Oriental and Iligan City on Wednesday morning.

Arrested were Marites T. Macapanton, 54, and Analiza D. Amabao, who are both in the police’s drug watch list.
