Council members can now become 'civil service eligible'
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
MEMBERS of the Sangguniang Bayan, Sangguniang Panlungsod and Sangguniang Panlalawigan who served for at least nine years and are holders of a bachelor's degree can now be conferred with a Civil Service Eligibility.
This was announced by Councilor Ramon Tabor during their regular session last Tuesday as he expressed gratitude to lawmakers for enacting into law Republic Act 10156.
"This would be a big help, in one way or another, to the members of the Sangguniang Bayan, Panlungsod and Panlalawigan who are not civil service eligible," Tabor said.
RA 10156 grants an eligibility equivalent to a Career Service Professional Eligibility to council members who served an aggregate period of nine years, provided they are holders of a bachelor's degree.
A member who served for six years can also be granted with eligibility equivalent to a Career Service Sub-Professional Eligibility provided they have earned at least 72 units in any baccalaureate degree program.
President Benigno Aquino III signed RA 10156 last December 20, 2011.
The Local Government Code of 1991 grants appropriate civil service eligibility on the basis of the number of years of service to the Punong Barangay, Sangguniang Barangay and other barangay officials, pursuant to the rules and regulations of the Civil Service Commission.
