Saturday, February 11, 2012
SAN Juan Representative Joseph Victor Ejercito said the effects of Tropical Storm Sendong in Cagayan de Oro City is not the fault of Mayor Vicente Y. Emano
Ejercito said recall election is not the solution to what is happening now in the city after the storm, which left thousands dead and thousands more homeless.

He said what happened can be attributed to climate change, citing that the world is getting “weird”.
“This is the first time that Cagayan de Oro has experienced this kind of tragedy. I can feel the pressure of Mayor Emano in dealing with the situation since I also felt the same experience when I was still a mayor at the height of Typhoon Ondoy,” he said.
Ejercito said his constituents were also demanding for immediate relief and reform right after the typhoon.
“We should be like the Japanese. They did not point fingers. Instead, they helped each other to rise from the tsunami tragedy,” he said.
Ejercito said what is happening in the country is due to climate change, which causes the occurrence of natural calamities that is beyond “our capacity to stop.”
He called on the people to learn from their mistakes and focus more on how to save nature.
“This is not the time to point fingers. There are still works to be done here in the city that need to be prioritized,” Ejercito said.
He added that this is also not the time for politicking but the time to work hand in hand in helping the city rise.
“Let us stop politicking. The election is still far. We should help one another for our city to be back at its feet again,” Ejercito said.
Earlier, a group called Save CDO Now Movement has been doing signature campaign for a recall election in the city.
The group even circulated Emano’s alleged “incapacity to lead the city in time of crisis” after Sendong at social networking sites.
