Pa stabs 3-month-old baby

A THREE-month-old girl was stabbed to death by her father inside their house in Barangay Puntod, Cagayan de Oro, Wednesday night.

Senior Police Officer 3 Ricky Bagas of Police Station 5 in Macabalan identified the suspect as Victoriano Delagon, 32, a resident of Block 2, Barangay Puntod.

Using a long knife, Delagon reportedly stabbed his three-month-old baby, who was sleeping in a hammock. The knife reportedly pierced through the baby’s back.

The victim was rushed to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) but died later while undergoing treatment.

In a radio interview, Delagon admitted that he stabbed his baby after they had a petty argument with his wife Christine.

“What came to my mind that time was to stab the baby,” he said.

However, Delagon’s wife denied his claim but admitted he is “suffering from a mental illness.”

According to Christine, her husband previously worked as a motorela driver but temporarily stopped because of some illnesses that he felt recently.

“Sometimes he can’t eat regularly that’s why there are times he complained of headache or stomach ache. But sometimes also, he keeps on saying things as if he’s insane,” she said.

Bagas said charges of infanticide will be filed against Delagon who is now detained at the Maharlika detention cell. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
