THE Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Northern Mindanao formally convened on Tuesday with Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno officially sworn as chairperson following the appointment issued by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo.
Moreno said the council will have two vice chairpersons -- for security and civilian affairs -- and four sub-committees.

He said the RPOC has a difficult task to do after organizing the structure and framework, hoping they can contribute to the peace and order in the region.
“The organizational chart was tackled during our meeting, which will enable the council to become effective and fully equipped for its mission,” Moreno said.
According to the documentation on the structure of the council, the sub-committee on civilian affairs will comprise of the human development, security, ecology and climate change committee, while the sub-committee on security affairs will be composed of the public safety management committee and the governance and law enforcement relation committees.
The RPOC will reportedly have a regular meeting once in every quarter, while the sub-committees will have their regular monthly meeting.
Earlier, President Benigno Aquino III appointed Moreno to chair the council.
The governors in Northern Mindanao reportedly nominated and endorsed Camiguin Governor Jurdin Jesus Romualdo to lead the council.
However, Aquino chose Moreno over Romualdo.
With this, Moreno has asked Romualdo to help the RPOC.
“Whatever it is that he (Romualdo) wants to do, we can do it together,” Moreno said.
