THE Provincial Board of Misamis Oriental approved on Monday a resolution urging all mayors of the province and City Council to review and make necessary revisions in their respective Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and zoning ordinance.
The board also urged the municipality/city planning and development offices (MPDO), to revisit the CLUP and zoning ordinance consonant to the geo-hazard map of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) on non-habitable and hazardous areas.

Board member Oliver S. Actub, who authored the resolution, said there is a need to amend the CLUP and zoning ordinance of every municipality and component cities to ensure strict and swift implementation of areas declared as danger zones.
Actub said they have earlier requested the MGB to provide a copy of the geo-hazard map or areas declared to be a no-habitation zone in the province to ensure the safety and security of the residents.
“This is to lessen, if not avert, any untoward and disastrous occurrences like the killer typhoon Sendong that hit Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities last December. All legal and necessary steps must be put into action,” he said.
Actub said the urban illegal settlers have now been one of the major problems of every local government unit (LGU) who “needlessly impose” an obligation of relocation site to an LGU.
