THE Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) enjoins the residents in Northern Mindanao to participate in the observance of Earth Hour by switching off their lights for one hour on March 31 at 8:30 p.m. and take a stand on global warming.
Ana C. Cañeda, director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Northern Mindanao and chairperson of RDRRMC-Northern Mindanao, said all heads of departments, agencies, bureaus and offices, including government-owned and controlled corporations, are encouraged to organize their own Earth Hour event in their respective communities or localities to widen the reach of the campaign.
Cañeda also urged them to use various communication channels to promote Earth Hour 2012, including official websites, community newsletters and blogs.
Earth Hour is a global campaign to showcase what can and is being done all over to combat climate change. It is a worldwide initiative showing how individuals, communities, businesses and governments can address the threat of global warming by working together.
Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007 when more than two million individuals and 2,000 businesses turned off their lights for one hour. (PIA)
