AT LEAST 5,304 job vacancies are available to the public on a job fair organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Northern Mindanao on May 1 at SM City from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Lawyer Johnson Cañete, Dole Regional Director, said the job fair is part of the department’s Labor Day celebration with the theme “Pagtutulungan, Pagbabago, Disenteng Trabaho.”

Cañete said the available job vacancies are composed of 1,768 offered by 63 local companies and 3,266 overseas from 28 companies.

“That is our current update. We are continually monitoring and updating the companies that we’ve invited and will join the event,” he said.

He added there will also be a skills demonstration from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) like haircut, massage, bartending and other skills.

Cañete said the public can go and watch the demonstration since it is free and there might be a free haircut and massage in the area.

He said the public can also pre-register by visiting the Public Employment Service Office (Peso) at City Hall where forms will be made available or register online at

“Interested applicants should pre-register in order for them to go directly during the job fair to the companies that fit their qualifications,” he said.

With this, Cañete is calling all fresh graduates, unemployed and underemployed to attend the job fair.

“People should avail of this opportunity since it is a rare event given that the different recruitment agencies, both local and overseas, are in one place to offer jobs,” he said.

Dole aims to fast-track the matching of jobseekers and employers, particularly in identified areas where skills are highly in demand or available, through the conduct of Job and Livelihood Fairs.

The job fairs are open to all unemployed, skilled and unskilled workers, fresh college graduates, graduates of training institutions, displaced workers and employees seeking advancement. (Michael Andrew W. Yu)
