A FIRE razed four houses at Zone 2 in Barangay Igpit, Opol town in Misamis Oriental Monday afternoon, causing an estimated damage of P100,000.
No injuries were reported in the afternoon fire that occurred amid heavy rain.
Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Fire Investigator 1 Jovanie Petogo of the Opol Fire Station said that around 2:25 p.m., they received a call informing them that the house of the Ubatay family was on fire.
He said fire trucks were immediately dispatched to the area.
However, Petogo said the blaze already razed the four houses owned by Demetrio Ubatay, Ramil Ocay, Jimmy Patlonag and Johnny Cataytay.
“But the houses of Patlonag and Cataytay were not totally burned,” he said.
The fire was reportedly put out around 3:10 p.m.
Investigation showed that the fire originated from the two-storey house of Ubatay, particularly at the kitchen.
“Two children were reportedly seen playing with a match before the fire broke out. But we’re still conducting an investigation,” Petogo told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
With this, Petogo reminded the public not to leave matches within the reach of children.
He also called on the public to always check electrical connection to avoid such incident. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
