AN ESTIMATED P7.5 million worth of properties was lost after a school was burned down in Initao, Misamis Oriental on Monday.
All the facilities inside Xavier Academy High School were reportedly damaged, including new computers, books and chairs.
Police Senior Inspector Mark Anthony Cagalitan, chief of Initao Police Station, said Xavier Academy is owned by the Roman Catholic church of Initao town.
Cagalitan said residents noticed the fire at around 6 p.m. Monday but firefighters from the towns of Naawan, Lugait, Alubijid and Opol were having difficulty containing the fire since the school was made of light materials.
The fire was declared out at 7 p.m.
Cagalitan said an overheated ceiling fan may have caused the fire though he claimed that the Bureau of Fire Protection is still investigating the incident.
