Lanao Norte LGU gears up for 53rd Charter Day

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte -- It’s all systems go for the 53rd Araw ng Lanao del Norte, said organizers from the different offices of the Provincial Government led by Governor Khalid Dimaporo.

This year, the Lanao del Norte Local Government has prepared commemorative events starting on June 22 until July 4, 2012 highlighting the theme “Nagkahi-usang Katawhan, Mauswagong Katilingban” (United People, Progressive Society).

The two-week celebration will kick-off with a three-day International Motocross and Freestyle Competitions on June 22, 2012 at the Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) motocross racetrack with riders coming from the American Motocross Association and several local showbiz celebrities.


On the same day, provincial officials will also lead the soft-opening of the Agri-Aqua, Livestock, the Otop Fair at the Agora terminal site. The Provincial Volunteer Health Workers Congress will also be held at the MCC Gym.

On June 23, a concert from one of the country’s biggest rock icon, Bamboo, shall take place at the MCC Gym.

Another anticipated activity is the Padian & Taboan nightly activities that will be held at the Agora terminal from June 24 up to June 30.

The grand opening of the Agri-Aqua, Livestock, and Otop Fair will be on June 27, 2012 punctuated by a grand parade in the morning, Diskwento Caravan throughout the day and a Big Night Sale to cap the day.

Another important event is scheduled on June 27 to 28, the Legislators’ Congress that will be held at the colossal MCC Gym with expected guests Alma Moreno and Angelica Jones.

June 28 is declared as “Environment Day.” On this day, provincial employees hold a tree planting activity followed by the formal presentation of the Miss Lanao del Norte candidates at the Kolambugan wharf.

The next day, June 29, is declared as “Youth Day” where young people all over Lanao del Norte come to the MCC Sports Complex to showcase their talents and compete in the Cheer Dance, Hip-hop, and Dance Sport competitions.

June 30 is “Sports Day.” Starting early in the day is the highly anticipated “Blood Bank Fun Run” jointly organized by the Provincial Government and Philippine Red Cross-Lanao del Norte Chapter.

In this event, free vitamins, donuts, bottled water, and cash prizes will be given away to participants. The run-for-a-cause activity will be followed by different sporting events like the Governor Dimaporo Invitational Shoot Fest. The “Sports Day” will end with a Battle of the Bands at the Agora site.

The annual festivities also include a “Tourism Day,” which will be celebrated on July 2, 2012 with a grand parade of festivals in the morning and Sagayan (war dance) festival.

On this day, several contests have been lined up like the Photo and Painting competition. The day’s revelries will end when a new candidate will be crowned as the new Ms. Lanao del Norte. The prestigious pageant will be hosted one of the country’s best-known TV personalities Solenn Heusaff and Jim Paredes. Former congresswoman Cynthia Villar will be the special guest during the coronation night.

July 3 is designated by Governor Dimaporo as “People’s Day.” Provincial offices, non-government organizations, NGAs and other government agencies will offer their medical/dental, registration and legal services for Lanao del Norte residents. There will also be a mass feeding and jobs fair for interested applicants.

On the same day, a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Caravan will also take place at the MCC Function Hall. The day shall end with a grand musical fireworks display at 9 p.m., right after the back-to-back concert of 6 Cycle Mind and Calla Lily at the MCC Gym.

Then finally, July 4 is “Culmination Day” for the 53rd Araw ng Lanao del Norte celebrations. The day will start with a grand parade then followed by a formal program with Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Representative Maria Milagros Magsaysay as guest speakers.
