Watchman jailed for murder

A WATCHMAN is now languishing in jail following a police pursuit operation for allegedly killing a man in Sitio Taguanao, Barangay Indahag in Cagayan de Oro, police said.
Police Officer 3 Alvin Nacaya of Police Station 9 in Macasandig identified the suspect as Estanislao Mabaylan, 47, a resident of Zone 3, Sitio Taguanao, Barangay Indahag and watchman at the same time security guard of a private land in the area.
The victim identified also as Joseph Haplag, 34, of Balingasag town in Misamis Oriental has succumbed to four gunshot wounds in the head from a .38 caliber revolver.
Police initial investigation showed that the incident happened around 10:30 in the evening at the said area when the victim and the suspect had a misunderstanding.
“According to the suspect, the victim was drunk and they had a quarrel that ended up with him killing the victim. But we still need to verify this information,” Nacaya told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
It was also learned that the victim and his three companions allegedly attempted to enter the area forcing the suspect to shoot the victim while his three companions quickly ran away leaving Haplag.
When responding policemen arrived at the crime scene, Mabaylan was no longer in the area, thus the pursuit operation that resulted to his arrest.
Mabaylan, according to Nacaya, stated that he has no regrets of killing the victim and he is willing to face the charges against him.
The suspect is now temporarily detained at the mini-cell of Police Station 9.
