THE Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) is calling on the people, particularly those living along coastal areas, to be vigilant after a storm surge hit again the town of Magsaysay in Misamis Oriental Thursday afternoon, affecting seven families.
However, Teddy Sabugaa, executive director of PDRRMC, confirmed no casualties were reported in the storm surge.
“The people should be vigilant at all times especially since high tide reached 1.9 on Thursday and Friday. This is now the result of climate change,” Sabugaa said.
On Wednesday morning, two coastal barangays in Misamis Oriental were affected by storm surge brought by inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ), killing one person and affecting 26 families.
A report from the PDRRMC showed that at least 10 houses were destroyed while one was totally damaged affecting 21 families in Barangay Casinglot, Tagoloan town and five families in Barangay Dampil, Lagonglong town.
Last Monday, 18 houses in Barangays Poblacion and Sta. Cruz, were also destroyed by the storm surge, affecting some 96 families. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
