CAGAYAN de Oro police are alarmed over the increasing number of minor commercial sex workers in the city who are reportedly involved in different crimes.
Police Superintendent Danildo Tumanda, station commander of Police Station 1 in Divisoria, said these minor commercial sex workers are as young as 13 years old.
This was discovered following the arrest of some 68 commercial sex workers in different areas in Divisoria in line with their campaign against commercial sex workers in the city.
Tumanda said that out of 68 commercial sex workers who were arrested over the weekend, 12 of them were minors aged 16 years old and below. It was also discovered that they do not have pink cards as proof that they have undergone regular hygiene check-up at the City Health Office.
He said their massive campaign against commercial sex workers will continue, citing that some of them are also involved in stealing the valuables of their customers.
“There are many blotter reports stating that these women have stolen things from them. There was even a police from Lanao who was only wearing his briefs when he reported to police after the woman he was with stole all his things,” Tumanda said.
In fact, police were able to recover some stolen items from some of the arrested commercial sex workers including cellular phones.
In the same way, those commercial sex workers who were arrested were taken profile for the police to identify those who will commit possible crimes like stealing the valuables of their customers.
Tumanda said the apprehension of commercial sex workers is not only for the protection of the person who patronized them but also for their health. He noted that some of the sex workers arrested are not only residents of Cagayan de Oro but also from other places. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
