AUTHORITIES are still conducting further investigation against the five persons who were tagged as the suspects in the killing of one of their companion in a drinking session Saturday evening in Barangay Dansolihon, Cagayan de Oro City.
Arrested were Tony Labaon, Giovannie Labaon, Peril Labaon, Reynante Labaon, and Reynaldo Salilo, all residents of Sitio Magawa, Barangay Dansolihon.
Four of the five suspects denied their participation in the killing of Roberto Loloy, a resident of Sitio Litig, Barangay Tignapoloan in Cagayan de Oro.
In an interview with dxIF Bombo Radyo, Reynante admitted he was the one “responsible for the death of Loloy.”
“But I did not mean to kill him. We had a heated argument and we were both drunk. I had beaten him to death,” he said.
Reynante added that when he punched Loloy, the latter fell down and hit his head on a rock, causing his death.
Police said the incident happened last Saturday around 9:30 p.m. in Sitio Langag, Barangay Dansolihon.
But Senior Police Officer 4 Edilberto Carillo, deputy station commander of Lumbia Police Station, said he is now investigating the witnesses to determine whether the four suspects participated in the killing of Loloy despite Reynante’s admission.
Initial investigation showed that Loloy was the father-in-law of one of the witness identified as Wilfredo Labaon and son of Tony, one of the suspects.
“Wilfredo went to fetch his father-in-law because it was already late in the evening and while on his way, he found his father-in-law’s sandals on the road. He then saw Reynante overturning his father-in-law,” Carillo told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
Wilfredo then sought the help of the barangay officials which resulted to the arrest of Reynante.
The four other suspects were arrested on Sunday.
Carillo said the five suspects will remain in detention pending the result of their investigation and statements of the witnesses.
