OPERATIVES of the Opol Municipal Police Station in Misamis Oriental recovered two alleged stolen vehicles and arrested one of the suspects Sunday afternoon.
The recovered vehicles were black Toyota Hilux with plate number AMA-04 and black Chevrolet Optra with plate number XTA-361.
The two vehicles are reportedly owned by Engr. Omar Diron, a resident of Barangay Igpit in Opol town.
Police Officer 2 Jonathan Eduave of Opol Municipal Police Station told Sun.Star that the Chevrolet was found abandoned at Zone 2 Tabok, Opol, while the Hilux was flagged down by authorities at a checkpoint in Kinasanghan around 4 p.m.
The Hilux was driven by a certain Almen Abinal, who was later arrested by police authorities.
The recovery of the two vehicles and the arrest of Abinal stemmed after Diron’s driver identified as Michael Bisoy, a resident of Barangay Kauswagan in Cagayan de Oro, reported to Opol Municipal Police Station that the two vehicles of his employer were stolen.
Initial investigation showed that Diron allegedly borrowed money from the family of Abinal and that the latter wanted to get the payment from Diron.
“They are relatives and Abinal asked Diron for the payment, so it appears that this is the motive of the snatching of the two vehicles,” Eduave said.
Abinal is now temporarily detained at the Opol Municipal Police Station pending the filing of charges.
Police said Diron is still in Manila as of Monday.
