THE Misamis Oriental Provincial Health Office (PHO) has reactivated the Barangay Dengue Brigade in the province in response to the call of the Department of Health (DOH) to intensify the campaign against dengue.
The DOH’s Regional Epidemiology Surveillance and Disaster Response Unit (RESDRU) reported at least 16 deaths due to dengue in the region, 13 of which came from Misamis Oriental.
Records from the DOH showed that Misamis Oriental has the highest number of dengue cases with 2,405. However, the number includes the 1,760 cases from Cagayan de Oro City.
Among the cities, Cagayan de Oro has the highest number of dengue cases with 54.8 percent.
As monitored by RESDRU, 17 barangays in Misamis Oriental had dengue cases, particularly Barangays Poblacion in Claveria, Barangays Aplaya and Lower Jasaan in Jasaan town, Barra and Igpit in Opol, Barangays Sta. Ana, Sta. Cruz, Natumulan and Rosario in Tagoloan and Barangay Punta Silun in Manticao.
Other cases were also found in El Salvador City, Initao, Salay, Talisayan and Villanueva.
PHO chief Dr. Ignacio Moreno said they have been intensifying the campaign against dengue, decreasing the number of cases in the province compared to last year.
