MISAMIS Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno is happy over the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cagayan de Oro City to approve the transfer of his voter registration records.
Moreno also accused Mayor Vicente Emano of orchestrating the petition filed by a group against his decision to transfer his registration records.
“I’m glad. Besides, that is a person’s basic Constitutional rights and no one can stop it,” Moreno said in an interview over dxIF Bombo Radyo.
Moreno, a native of Balingasag in Misamis Oriental, earlier filed for the transfer of his registration records from Misamis Oriental to Cagayan de Oro and later announced he would be running for mayor in the city.
On Wednesday, the Election Registration Board dismissed the opposition’s petition to Moreno’s transfer of voter registration records.
The opposition was filed by Edygardo Roa, Alejandro Responte and many others who identified themselves as “concerned citizens and registered voters.”
In a five-page decision, the board said Moreno has met the minimum requirement provided by law to transfer his voter registration records.
“The governor is now a registered voter in Cagayan de Oro as enshrined in our Constitution that any person has a right to change his abode,” said City Election Officer Aleli Ramirez.
Ramirez said only the Court can answer Moreno’s status if he still remains as governor of Misamis Oriental after his voter registration records have been transferred.
Earlier, Emano denied having knowledge about the petition against Moreno, and instead tagged the governor as the one behind the group.
