MISAMIS Oriental Representative Peter Unabia (1st district), along with some of the province’s mayors and other officials, will be officially sworn to the Liberal Party (LP) today, Friday, at the party’s Central Office in Manila.
Unabia, who recently announced his unequivocal support to LP’s gubernatorial candidate Vice Governor Norris Babiera, flew to Manila on Wednesday together with the mayors, vice mayors and other officials to take their oath before Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas, LP’s president.
Aside from Ubania, among those who will also take their oath Friday are Mayor Santiago Ocot and Vice Mayor Rey Buhisan of Magsaysay town, Vice Mayor Eric Caniosa of Gingoog City, Board Member Wayn Militante, Mayor Gerry Lagbas of Sugbongcogon, Mayor Romy Gue, Mayor Jubert Pamisa of Lagonglong, Board Member Jess Jardin, Max Seno and Glee Jacalan from Opol, lawyer Anayron and Marlon Khu.
Unabia, a neophyte congressman, is a member of Padayon Pilipino founded by Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano whose son, last termer Representative Yevgeny Vincente Emano (2nd district) will run as governor against Babiera.
During their “heart-to-heart” talk in a restaurant in Cagayan de Oro over the weekend, Unabia informed the younger Emano of his support to Babiera.
He also denied rumors that his bolting out of Emano's homegrown party was because of personal interest and political survival.
In a recent radio interview, Emano said he and his party is not moved by the transfer of Unabia or any other members to the LP because "it is all part of politics."
"At the end of the day, it will always be the decision of the people. And that is what's important," he said.
Meanwhile, Babiera said House Speaker Jose Belmonte and Senator Franklin Drilon will witness Friday's ceremony along with Balingasag Mayor Alexis Quina, Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Edgar Cabanlas and lawyer James Judith III.
