A BUKIDNON police died after he was shot by one of four suspects who robbed a delivery van in Maramag, Bukidnon Wednesday last week, police said.
Police Chief Inspector Raymund Lumapay, chief of Maramag Police Station, identified the victim as Police Officer 1 Alito Luminado assigned at the Public Safety Company. He was rushed to a hospital but died a few minutes later.
Lumapay said Luminado responded to a robbery incident last September 5 around 12 noon and went for a chase with the suspects from Barangay Kuya in the same town who fled towards Barangay Dagumbaan.
Luminado was still able to fight back and shot one suspect identified as Ruel B. Edulza of Misamis Occidental who is now confined in a hospital.
Police initial investigation showed that the delivery van was proceeding to Maramag town proper when upon reaching Barangay Kuya, the suspects on board a red XRM motorcycle with plate number 7755KP shot the van’s wheel using a caliber .45 pistol.
“The salesman declared that at least P200,000 was taken by the suspects,” Lumapay told Sun.Star.
Aside from Edulza, police were able to arrest Calib S. Polinio of Valencia City in Bukidnon.
Police operatives in Maramag were able to recover at least P134,000 from the suspects’ possession during their arrest.
Polinio is now detained at the Maramag Police Station.
Murder charges have been filed against the suspects while police had yet to file the robbery case pending the company’s report to the police.
