THE Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) are urging Kagay-anons who are in their voting age to register and be counted in the May 2013 national and local elections.
The Comelec will be conducting off-site registration in different schools and malls in Cagayan de Oro for the whole month of September.
Lawyer Aleli Ramirez, Comelec officer, said the off-site registration will address time-constraints of students and school personnel.
However, Ramirez said there will be no registration at the Comelec office during the off-site registration.
The off-site registration will start on September 14 at Xavier University.
Other schedules are on September 15 at SM City, which is open to the public; September 20 at Lourdes College; September 21 at Liceo de Cagayan University; September 22 at Lim Ket Kai Mall, which is also open to the public; September 24 at Capitol University; September 25 at Pilgrim Christian College; September 26 at the Mindanao University of Science and Technology; and September 27 at Cagayan de Oro College.
During the off-site registration, the Comelec will also cater to those who would want to transfer their voter registration records within the city, change of name or address, and re-activation.
The requirements needed for those who wanted to register are any of the following -- current employee's ID signed by the employer or employer representative; Postal ID; student's ID signed by school authority; Senior Citizen's ID; Driver's License; NBI or PNP Clearance; Passport with electric, water, telephone, internet or cable TV bill; SSS or GSIS ID with electric, water, telephone, internet or cable TV bill; IBP ID; PRC license; any valid ID with present address; birth certificates for 18 to 19 year olds in three photocopies and marriage contract for change of status also in three photocopies.
Residence certificates (cedula) and barangay clearance are not accepted.
The Comelec also announced that suspension of registration will be held on October 1 to 6 in lieu of the scheduled filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) of candidates running for elective positions in the May election.
Ramirez said suspension of registration will give way to politicians who will file their COCs with their supporters who will parade at their office to show support to their candidates.
Registrations will resume on October 8 until October 31.
