A GRADE V pupil is now detained after he was caught by the prison guard of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for allegedly possessing a teabag of dried leaves of marijuana on Tuesday.
PDEA regional director Roberto S. Opeña said the 16-year-old student was supposed to visit his brother, who was temporarily detained at PDEA’s mini-cell, when upon inspection by the prison guard, a teabag of dried marijuana leaves was found inside his wallet.
“The search is part of the standard operating procedure of our office,” Opeña said.
The minor is a student of South City Central School and is residing at 31st Street Barangay Nazareth in Cagayan de Oro City.
He is now temporarily detained at the PDEA office, while the recovered drug item was brought to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory examination.
A charge for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 is being prepared against the minor. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
