Poll body sets campaign periods for candidates

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set the campaign periods for the national and local polls.

The campaign period from January 13 to June 12, 2013 is relative to the May 2013 elections.

Pursuant to Comelec Resolution No. 9385, declaring the “Calendar of Activities and Periods of Certain Prohibited Acts in Connection with the May 2013 National and Local Elections,” the campaign periods are as follows:

February 12 to May 11, 2013 for those running as Senator and for the party-list groups participating in the May 2013 elections.

March 29 to May 11, 2013 for those running as Congressmen or members of the House of Representatives and elective regional, provincial, city and municipal officials.

Lawyer Renato A. Magbutay, Comelec regional director, said all campaigning will end on May 11, 2013.

Campaigning on May 12, 2013, the day before, and during the day of the elections, May 13, 2013, are already prohibited.

Meanwhile, Magbutay said the Comelec will work on the constitution of the Board of Canvassers (BOC), Board of Election Inspectors (BEI), Special BEI’s and Special BOC’s from January 2 to 15, 2013, as scheduled.

The Comelec has also set January 13, 2013 as the last day to prepare the list of the Certified List of Absentee Overseas Voters (CLAOV) and furnish copies to the Philippine Embassies, Consulates and other foreign services establishments abroad.

Below is the list of activities in connection with the May 13, 2013 national and local elections:

February 12, 2013 - Posting of the certified list of voters

March 14 to March 28, 2013 – Issuance or sending of notices of inspection and verification of completeness of the precinct book of voters.

March 29 to April 13, 2013 – Inspection, verification and sealing of the book of voters.

April 13, 2013 – Last day to furnish every registered voter with a Voter’s Information Sheet.

April 13, 2013 to May 13, 2013 – Casting of votes of overseas voter on any day from April 13, 2013 host country time to 3:00 p.m. of May 13, 2013, Philippine Time.

May 6, 2013 – Testing and sealing of the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines.

May 13, 2013 – Casting of votes on Election Day and convening of the Municipal/City/ District and Provincial and Regional Boards of Canvassers and Special Boards of Canvassers.

June 12, 2013 - Last day to file Sworn Statements of Election Contributions and Expenditures. (PIA)
