THE Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) finally identified two of the four suspects who ransacked the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) Multi-purpose Cooperative and D’ Asian Hills Bank in Barangay Carmen Sunday evening.
Senior Police Officer 2 Fernando Laspoña of Police Station 4 in Carmen said the suspects are members of “Acetylene gang.”
But Laspoña declined to identify the two suspects pending the filing of appropriate charges against them on Monday.
He told Sun.Star the suspects were identified through their pictures which Cocpo obtained from the Cabadbaran City Police Station in Caraga.
“They were arrested in Caraga, that’s why they already have files. They were also positively identified by witnesses,” Laspoña said.
The notorious “acetylene gang” is actively operating in Metro Manila but is also reportedly recruiting members in other areas.
On Sunday evening, the suspects ransacked the two establishments and took away some P200,000 from D Asian Hills Bank and P180,000 from MSU-IT Multi-Purpose Cooperative. The heist was discovered Monday evening.
Police said the suspects gained entrance from a space of the building owned by Liberato Acapulco that they rented, which is only adjacent to the two establishments. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
