FIVE political prisoners detained at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) would start their symbolic fasting protest today, Friday, in commemoration of the 40th year anniversary of Martial Law.
Alfredo Mapano a.k.a. “Ka Paris,” then regional head of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) for Northern Mindanao, will lead the fasting protest.
To join Mapano are four other detainees identified as Vicente Libona, Alexander Yamson, Leneil Marianas and Arnuldo Saliring.
The five detainees are joined by other political prisoners from various detention facilities in the country in their coordinated actions through a symbolic fasting protest, which would continue until September 21, the day when Martial Law was declared by then president Ferdinand E. Marcos.
More than 300 political prisoners are reportedly still languishing in jail.
