IN CELEBRATON of the International Day of Peace, the Balay Mindanaw Group of NGOs (BMG) will be conducting a medical mission specifically for the victims/survivors of Tropical Storm Sendong from its five partner barangays at the Provincial Capitol grounds.
The medical mission is a one-of-a-kind event where various partners of Balay Mindanaw come together to reach out and "bring a moment of peace" to those who have medical concerns and needs.
The medical mission will be undertaken by BMG's Disaster Response, Risk Reduction Management and Resiliency Building Program Team in coordination with the Office of Civil Defense-Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, Provincial Health Office, Center for Health Development in Northern Mindanao, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Social Welfare and Development, 4th Infantry Division and Balay Mindanaw fellows.
A total of 1,500 persons are expected to be served during the event – 250 from each of the five partner barangays, namely: Iponan, Bonbon, Carmen, Macasandig and Indahag.
Among the medical services to be provided are consultation/checkups for cough, colds, fever, skin diseases, pre-natal, diabetes screening; dental checkups and tooth extraction; minor surgery such as circumcision and cysts removal; and major surgery for cataract, goiter, cleft, myoma, choletithiosis (stone removal), hernia, hydrocele surgery, inguinal hernia and breast lump.
September 21 has been designated by the United Nations as the International Day of Peace. Its theme "Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future" is very close to the heart of Balay Mindanaw as it upholds its mission of helping build empowered sustainable and peaceful communities in Mindanao. (PR)
