TUBOD, Lanao del Norte -- The province is once again the focus of national attention as it competes for the prestigious Pearl Award by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (Atop) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) for best tourism practices.
Lanao del Norte is competing in two categories -- Culture and Arts and Sports and Wellness both for the provincial level.
This is the second year that Lanao del Norte will be joining the national competition designed to evaluate the tourism initiatives and innovations of local government units.
Last year, the province won the top spot in Culture and Arts category for its Araw ng Lanao del Norte festivities and third place in Sports and Wellness category for the hugely successful Lanao del Norte International Motocross Championships.
“This competition is a great platform for us to showcase the beauty and peacefulness of Lanao del Norte. We are also proud of our international motocross competition that made the province the Motocross Capital of the Philippines,” said Tourism Officer Minda Regis.
Last September 14, the final judging for the competition was held at the Diliman Preparatory School in Commonwealth Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.
Lanao del Norte was represented by Regis for the Culture and Arts category and Information Officer Vincent Labial for Sports and Wellness.
Other provincial finalists in the Culture and Arts category are Compostela Valley, Laguna and Capiz while for the Sports and Wellness category, Compostela Valley is also a finalist along with the province of La Union.
The awarding ceremony is set on October 4 at Dakak Park and Beach Resort in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte during the 13th Atop National Convention. (PR)
