THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cagayan de Oro is already prepared for the expected outpour of supporters of different political parties and their candidates, with barely a week before the filing of certificate of candidacy (COC).
Lawyer Aleli Ramirez, City election officer, said they already requested police assistance during the entire period of the COC filing.
Ramirez said their office is only anticipating the parade of crowd in escorting their candidates as a show of support.
The filing in Cagayan de Oro City will be closed by 5 p.m. of October 6.
“Usually when politicians file their COCs, there is much fanfare with their supporters so medyo magubot gyud kana,” Ramirez said.
Meanwhile, the Comelec also announced the suspension of voters’ registration to give way for the filing of COCs.
Registration will resume on October 8 until October 31.
However, Comelec also announced its off-site registration to bring its services closer to the voting populace.
Among the off-site registration scheduled are: September 24 at Capitol University, September 25 at Pilgrim Christian College, September 26 at the Mindanao University of Science and Technology (Must), and September 27 at Cagayan de Oro College.
During the off-site registration, the Comelec will also cater to those who wanted to transfer their voter registration records within the city, change of name or address and re-activation.
Ramirez said the offsite registration will address time-constraints of students and school personnel.
The requirements needed for those who wanted to register are any of the following: current employee's ID signed by the employer or employer representative; postal ID; student's ID signed by school authority; senior citizen's ID; driver's license; NBI or police clearance; passport with electric, water, telephone, internet or cable TV bill; SSS or GSIS ID with electric, water, telephone, internet or cable TV bill; IBP ID; PRC license; any valid ID with present address; birth certificate for 18 to 19 years old in three photocopies; and marriage contract for change of status in three photocopies.
Ramirez said residence certificates and barangay clearance are not accepted.
