Energy office, Iligan ink pact on CFL distribution

ILIGAN CITY -- The Department of Energy (DOE) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the lone congressional district of this city for the distribution of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) to target beneficiaries here.

A total of 10,000 CFLs were already distributed to 5,100 households comprising 17 barangays in this city.

The project is part of the efficient lighting initiatives under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded-Philippine Energy Efficiency Project (Peep), through its National Residential Lighting Program.

The DOE has announced that household electricity consumers would have the opportunity to get free CFLs starting September 22 until September 28 of this year.

Rosevi Queenie Belmonte, chief of staff of Representative Vicente F. Belmonte, said they coordinated with the village chiefs in identifying beneficiaries who can get one to two pieces CFL per household, which was simultaneously done nationwide last September 22 until September 26 here.

Consumers were advised to coordinate with their village chief, particularly on the location of the claim center. They are required to bring their most recent electricity bill to the center to get free CFLs.

The DOE said this simple action of switching from incandescent bulb to energy efficient CFL, which also forms part of the “Bright Now! Do Right. Be Bright Campaign,” would result in lower energy bills, thereby stretching their budget for more important needs.

The DOE said a 14-watt Day Light CFL has a lamp life of 10,000 hours and allows households to save P400 per year. (Lorry V. Gabule/PIA)
