CAGAYAN de Oro Representative Rufus B. Rodriguez (2nd district) is set to file his certificate of candidacy either on Wednesday or Thursday under the newly accredited political party, Centrist Democratic Party (CDP).
Rodriguez already detached his political ties with former President Joseph Estrada recently as he was elected president of CDP.
He, however, stressed that though he and Estrada separated ways, they remained personal friends.
He said his law office is still Estrada’s legal counsel and will help him in his candidacy as mayor in Manila.
“Nag-istorya na mi ni Erap ug maayo ang among pagbulag sa partido but we’re personally friends,” Rodriguez said.
CDP composed of young professionals and progressive groups in the country and was accredited by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as a political party last September 12.
According to Rodriguez, their party will remain neutral in the May 13 polls, particularly in Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental, as they prefer not to coalesce yet with another party.
“Gusto sa grupo nga modaug ang ilang kandidato sa kaugalingon nga paningkamot kay established naman ang ubang party,” he said.
Meanwhile, City Councilor Edgar Cabanlas said he is optimistic that Rodriguez’ parting ways with PMP will lead to future coalition with the LP. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
