THE Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Misamis Oriental has been a consistent top performer local government unit (LGU) in the implementation of basic health services all over the country.
In the 2011 performance results, Misamis Oriental was recognized as number 10 in heath service delivery programs applicable to LGUs in the country such as Fully Immunized Child (FIC).
Dr. Patricia Lim, assistant provincial health officer, said of the 75 provinces nationwide, Misamis Oriental is number 10 as far as FIC is concerned.
Lim said the program on immunization was established to reduce morbidity and mortality among children less than 14 months old against the most common vaccine-preventable diseases and to ensure that infants/children have access to routinely recommended vaccines.
Aside from FIC, Misamis Oriental is number eight in putting up waterworks system for safe drinking water.
Among other health programs that the province has been recognized as top performer includes the Out-Patient Package Benefits and the LGU sponsored PhilHealth enrollment wherein Misamis Oriental reached the universal coverage.
“When you say universal coverage, all indigents in the province are enrolled in PhilHealth,” Lim told Sun.Star.
In 2011, there were at least 191,000 PhilHealth enrollees in the province, including the beneficiaries of the 47,000 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. (Annabelle Ricalde)
