WHILE operatives of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) and traffic enforcers were busy providing security to Vice President Jejomar Binay and his party Friday afternoon, robbers ransacked and carted away an undetermined amount of cash from a courier company in Divisoria area.
Police Senior Inspector Henry Cay-as, station commander of Divisoria Police Station 1, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that around 1:15 p.m., two robbers barged into the Divisoria branch of LBC located along Pabayo-Chavez Sts. and declared a holdup.
The heist reportedly caught the courier company’s three employees by surprise.
Police initial investigation showed that the two robbers, one of whom was armed with a still undetermined caliber, pretended to be customers and later declared holdup at gunpoint.
Based on LBC’s closed circuit television (CCTV) camera, one of the two suspects wore a bonnet while the other wore a green bull cap.
“Nakalugar ang mga suspects kay ang atong mga polis didto man sa St. Augustine Cathedral kay lagi niadto man si Vice President Binay,” Cay-as said.
Binay was in the city Friday to endorse the candidacy of Mayor Vicente Emano and his group as official candidates in Cagayan de Oro under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
Emano and his local slate first attended a Mass at the St. Augustine Cathedral with Binay before marching toward the city Commission on Elections (Comelec) to file their certificates of candidacy (COC).
As of press time, authorities are still conducting investigation on the incident based on the CCTV while the management of LBC is also conducting an inventory.
Earlier, at least two other LBC branches were also robbed by unidentified suspects.
