Oro mayor’s Padayon Pilipino now a regional party-A A +A

MEMBERS of Padayon Pilipino rejoiced over the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) approving their application for the group to be recognized as a regional party.
Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano, who founded Padayon Pilipino in 1994, said he was overwhelmed by the unanimous decision of Comelec to recognize their party through the effort of Cagayan de Oro first district Representative Jose Benjamin Benaldo and Misamis Oriental Representatives Yevgeny Vincente Emano and Peter Unabia.
“I waited 18 years for its approval. Now that we are an official regional party, we will cover as far as Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin province, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, and Cagayan de Oro,” he said.
City Councilors Ian Mark Nacaya and Dante Pajo also said they are very happy with Comelec’s decision, citing they can now proudly carry their party’s banner.
Emano is formerly under the PDP-Laban of former senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr.
He organized Padayon Pilipino as a “neighborhood association” after he figured in a “misunderstanding” with Pimentel.
Emano then used the signature brand Padayon Pilipino in coalition with different national political parties in every election.
The mayor and his team filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) last week under different umbrella political parties.
Emano is running under Padayon Pilipino-United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of Vice President Jejomar Binay, while his running mates are under Padayon Pilipino-Laban, Padayon Pilipino-Lakas, Padayon Pilipino-Kampi and Padayon Pilipino-NPC.
Emano said despite the endorsement of Comelec, their party will still coalesce with UNA after Binay adopted them while waiting for the approval of their application.
