Mayor: Peace pact to help Philippines economy grow-A A +A
Tuesday, October 16, 2012
CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano expressed his support to the historic signing of the framework agreement between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Malacañang.
Emano said Mindanao will not only benefit from the peace agreement as it will also provide economic growth to the country.
The framework agreement calls for the creation of the Bangsamoro political entity that replaces the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm).
Under the agreement, the core territory of Bangsamoro will include villages in the municipalities of Kabacan, Aleosan, Pigkawayan, Pikit and Midsayap of North Cotabato that voted for the inclusion in the extended Armm.
Emano hoped that through the framework agreement, conflicts in different areas of Mindanao will stop, giving way to peace.
President Benigno Aquino said the establishment of the Bangsamoro political entity will go through the full process of legislation in Congress and will be subject to ratification through a plebiscite. (Nicole J. Managbanag)
