Village councilman dismissed from office-A A +A

MEMBERS of the Cagayan de Oro City Council ruled with finality the dismissal of a barangay official from his office.
Village councilman Rolando A. Ranoa of Barangay 7 was charged of violating Rule XIX, Article 124 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Local Government Code and Grave Misconduct and was hereby imposed a penalty of dismissal from office.
Councilor Ramon Tabor, who presided last week’s regular session, had to call for a suspension or recess three times to consult the members until it was called to a vote whether the penalty will be suspension or dismissal.
“It took more than one hour to deliberate and vote. And by majority votes, it was for dismissal,” Tabor told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
The complaint emanated from Barangay Resolution No 2012-01 recommending a penalty of dismissal and was then forwarded to the Blue Ribbon Committee under the chairmanship of Councilor Alvin Calingin.
Calingin said Ranoa failed to attend hearings despite invitations for him to be heard in the committee hearing.
After deliberations, the Committee on Laws and Rules recommended a penalty of Dismissal from Office.
Ranoa allegedly committed 21 consecutive and unauthorized absences during the barangay’s regular sessions. (Abigail Chee Kee Malalis)
