THE Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed Wednesday that the attack perpetrated by alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Kinoguitan, Misamis Oriental on Tuesday was purely “robbery.”
Ronnie Francis Cariaga, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that the alleged NPAs raided some houses of civilians, including the ones owned by retired and active army and police personnel.
“Gipangkuha man nila ang mga armas, including uniform of ROTC, so unsa man ang tawag ana di ba robbery?” Superintendent Cariaga said.
He said luckily, no encounter occurred and no one was reported hurt in the raid.
“The offensive movement of policemen and military is still ongoing including its intelligence network,” said Cariaga.
He added that such movement of the communist rebels could not be prevented despite the precautionary measures implemented by the army and police.
On Tuesday, it was reported that some 100 alleged NPA members who were reportedly in full battle gear set up checkpoints along the highway of Kinoguitan town.
Reports showed that some of the NPAs went on a house-to-house search and seized the firearms of retired and active army and police personnel.
However, the military clarified that the NPAs only numbered between 30 to 50. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
