BUTUAN CITY – Undetermined number of armed men reportedly belonging to the New People’s Army’s (NPA) Regional Sentro de Grabidad (RSDG) in North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) allegedly burned two equipment used in repairing the national highway in Barangay Curva, Santiago, Agusan del Norte, Wednesday dawn.
In a statement, the Philippine Army said the alleged rebels burned down one dump truck and one mixer owned by Atty. Henry Oaminal, vice governor of Misamis Occidental.
The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. last February 6.
Police personnel from the municipality of Santiago in Agusan del Norte together with soldiers under the 3rd Special Forces Battalion immediately proceeded to the area to conduct investigation and hot pursuit operation against the alleged NPA rebels.
Ltc. Potenciano C. Camba, commanding officer of the 3rd Special Forces Battalion, said they are optimistic that the rebels will fall into their hands.
“The damages could have been worst if not for the information from the residents who texted us regarding the presence of the said armed group in their community. The heavy equipment were slightly damaged after we have immediately extinguished the fire. This only shows that the NPA no longer have the support of the people in the area,” Camba said.
Colonel Crescente Q. Maligmat, officer-in-charge of the Philippine Army’s 402nd Brigade, said they strongly condemn the NPA’s atrocities which are no longer done to fight for their idealism. (Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro)
