THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has filed charges of illegal possession of firearms against Lanao del Norte’s politician-couple Vice Mayor Lacson Mangotara Lantud and his wife, Mayor Eleanor Dimaporo Lantud.
Police Chief Inspector Pepito Reyes of CIDG confirmed the said information in a radio interview, saying: “Bale tatlong separate cases ang ipa-file namin sa kanila. Magpa-file din kami ng illegal possession of explosive against kay vice mayor.”
Last February 13, 2013, government troops raided the couple’s house by virtue of a search warrant and found an M60 MG, six M203 grenade launchers, two M79 grenade launchers, nine M14 rifles, two M16 rifles, 14 garand rifles, six short handguns, assorted ammunition and a bar.
After the raid, the CIDG and the Police Regional Office conducted further investigation that resulted to the filing of charges against the couple.
Superintendent Ronnie Francis Cariaga, spokesperson of Police Regional Office, said the drive against loose firearms is in line with the effort of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to secure the May 2013 midterm elections.
