KAPATAGAN, Lanao del Norte - Three unidentified persons were killed and two others were injured in a two-hour fire that razed a pension house Wednesday at 10:45 p.m. in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte.
The initial investigation showed that an unattended lighted lamp inside a room might have caused the fire.
Fire Officer 1 Darwin Enerio, chief of operations of the Kapatagan Bureau of Fire Protection, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro City that Kapatagan didn’t have power that night due to the rotating brownout schedule.
Enerio said the fire was on the highest alarm level (Alpha) that sent seven fire trucks from Kolambugan, Tubod, Baroy, Lala and Sultan Naga Dimaporo towns to prevent further escalation of damage in nearby residential and commercial buildings. Kapatagan has only one fire truck.
The Scene Of the Crime Operative retrieved the charred bodies of a man, a woman and a boy inside the restroom of the pension house while the couple Rolando and Esther Mocorro, the owners of the pension house, were rushed to a hospital in Maranding in Lala town in Lanao del Norte.
The charred bodies were brought to a funeral parlor for identification process. The logbook of the pension house got burned that made it difficult for the police to identify the charred bodies.
Enerio said there were two fire incidents recorded in Kapatagan in this fire prevention month. (Richel V. Umel, Correspondent)
