A 51-year-old man was stabbed to death by his alleged live-in partner’s brother while on a drinking spree on a roadside in Barra, Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro Thursday afternoon.
Senior Police Officer 1 Camaloding Macmac, police investigator of Macabalan police station, identified the victim as Celso Loque, a native of Carmen, Butuan City, who sustained three stab wounds on the neck, chest and shoulder.
Loque was rushed to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
The suspect Allan Paje, 32, also a resident of Barra, Macabalan, had a drinking session for hours with the latter, when he got drunk suddenly stabbed the victim.
Paje is a brother of Dedicacion Bago, live-in partner of Loque, the reports said.
“Sa pagangutana namo sa suspect, moingon man lang siya nga wala siya kahibalo nga nanunggab siya ug iyang napatay (ang biktima) (The suspect would only say that he was not aware that he stabbed and killed the victim),” Macmac told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
He even said that nobody from the crime scene could tell where the knife came from, as the suspect denied it came from him.
Initial police reports said Paje got the knife from his house purportedly to peel mangoes for “pulutan.”
But when the two suddenly had a heated argument, the suspect allegedly used the same knife to kill the victim.
“Ingon pa sa suspect nga sige pa gani kuno sila ug apir-apir (high five). Pero sa dihang gipangutana na kung ngano nga iyang gidunggab ang biktima, wala man kono siya kahibalo nga iyang gidunggab (The suspect said he and victim were even high-fiving at each other (prior to the incident). But when he was asked why he stabbed the victim, he said he had no idea why he did it),” Macmac said.
Macmac said Paje was drunk when interrogated in the police station, after he was turned over by barangay officials to the police.
The police have prepared all the documents to file murder charge against the suspect in the prosecutor’s office Friday morning.
“Ang kulang na lang gyud ang affidavit sa live-in partner ni Loque nga si Dedicacion Bago. Gitawagan namo siya kaganina. Ingon siya nga going pa daw siya dinhi sa Cagayan de Oro gikan sa Butuan. Hangtud karon wala pa man. Pero ready na ang mga papeles (What’s lacking is Loque’s live-in partner’s affidavit. When we called her, she said she was on her way to Cagayan de Oro. The documents are ready),” Macmac said.
The case will be filed before the City Prosecutor’s office hopefully by Monday as the police cannot file charges against since they were not the ones who witnessed the crime, Macmac added.
