WITHOUT wearing facemasks, a group of armed men robbed in less than a minute a bank official escorted by two security guards on board a vehicle in Zone 1, Barangay Bulua, early afternoon Wednesday, police said.
A police report logged by Senior Police Officer 2 Jude Fuentes from Bulua police showed that Rowena Ocon, 48, a cashier at Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) Iligan branch and security escorts Albert Pinke, 57, and Joe Jen Balana, 48, were heading back to Iligan City when armed men carted away an undetermined amount of cash.
Hilario Monje, 57, drove the car the DBP staff used to withdraw money from its branch in Cagayan de Oro City.
When the car stopped at the traffic light along Bulua junction, the armed men simply cased the car and ordered them to release the money.
One of the suspects smashed the car’s rear right-side windshield using a heavy-duty hammer.
The suspects poked high-powered firearms at Ocon’s group while the heist was in progress.
Aside from the bundles of cash contained in duffle bags, the robbers also carted away the guards’ two .38 caliber revolvers and a 12-gauge shotgun.
According to the report, the suspects were in their mid-40s, medium built, wearing white and black t-shirts and jeans while two of the robbers wore ball cap.
After the robbery, the suspects boarded a green Honda Civic, with plate no. WAY 494, and a white SUV-type vehicle that sped off toward an unknown direction, police said.
Police could not yet determine the number of suspects who staged the robbery.
Police Officer 1 Allan Oco escorted the victims to the Bulua police precinct. Oco is assigned at the Misamis Oriental provincial police, the report read.
It has been months ago that a heist of this magnitude happened in the city that involved a satellite office of Cagayan Electric Power at Barangay Carmen and Light Company (Cepalco) and lending firms. Some suspects of the Cepalco heist have been arrested while nothing has been heard of any suspect arrested involved in a lending firm robbery in June this year.
