BALO-I, Lanao del Norte -- The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) personnel conducted a clearing operations beneath the 138 kilo volts (kv) transmission lines along the village of Nangka in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte Thursday.
Lawyer Rakimah B. Macaraya, Clerk of Court V of the 12th Judicial Region, Branch 1, penned the Writ of Possession issued on September 5.
The NGCP clearing team with the 4th Mechanize Infantry Battalion (4th MIB) of the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police met resistance from the adverse claimants who planted the trees beneath the transmission lines which endangered the power transmission facilities.
Ruth Macmac, one of the claimants told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro in an interview, said she wasn’t aware of any policy that planting trees are prohibited in the areas near transmission lines.
“I have no idea of such policy, all I want is NGCP pays us,” she said in vernacular.
Lieutenant Colonel Danilo Ibon, commanding officer of the 4th MIB, said the court mandated his group to provide security to the NGCP clearing team to prevent violence that might rise from the adverse claimants.
Court Sheriff 4 Dianlodin M. Natangcop served the court order on Writ of Possession, to clear the areas planted with trees hampering the transmission lines whenever the weather is inclement.
The clearing operation was suspended for two hours that lasted until noontime Wednesday as adverse claimants, their legal counsel, and land owner representatives held a dialogue to agree on some points to avoid violence.
Elizabeth Ladaga, NGCP corporate communications head based in Iligan City, said "We have been conducting dialogue and information drive through media so that the community will understand the NGCP's policy particularly on safety."
Eduardo Cabahug, security officer of NGCOP, said some of NGCP transmission towers in North Cotabato were toppled by some Moro rebels using improvised explosive device.
The latest incident of the attempt to topple NGCP towers occurred in Carmen town in North Cotabato where militiamen foiled an attempt to blast the 138 kv line there, Cabahug said.
The NGCP seeks the military and police to help secure these towers that provide power in most parts of Mindanao.
