FOR collecting payment for a debt, a man was shot dead over the weekend by a woman who owed her some amount at Zone 4, Barangay Bayabas, police said Sunday.
Senior Inspector Alfredo Ortiz Jr., precinct commander of the Carmen police station, identified the victim as Ruben Carpio III, married, and a resident of Barangay Bayabas.
Ortiz said Carpio sustained gunshot wounds on his chest, head and throat that resulted to his death.
Carpio was rushed to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), but was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors, Ortiz said.
According to initial police investigation, Carpio came to collect an outstanding debt payment from a certain Delma Melito, 41, married, also resident of Bayabas, when the incident happened.
Ortiz said the Carpio and Melito had a heated argument when the suspect drew her Smith and Wesson revolver and shot the former.
Ortiz said Carpio followed up on Melito’s debt plenty of times before the shooting but that he always ended up empty handed.
Authorities arrested the suspect right after the incident and she is detained at the Maharlika detention cell of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo).
Police recovered three live ammunition and two empty casings at the crime site, he said.
Ortiz said Meliton would face charges in violation of the gun ban law.
He said Carpio’s family is determined to press charges against Melito saying that a debt should not be a reason for killing a person.
Further investigation is still ongoing, Ortiz added.
