Thursday, December 12, 2013
THE city treasurer’s office of Cagayan de Oro has warned those who have delinquent real property tax (RPT) to pay up or else their properties will be auctioned off by first quarter next year.
“If you fail to pay in the first quarter, you are considered delinquent under the Local Government Code,” city treasurer Glen Bañez said.
Bañez said they have one year to redeem the property if they have already settled their account.
The real property owners’ payment will come with the monthly two-percent charge due to delinquency on top of other surcharges.
Bañez said after they have paid their delinquents they will consolidate with the court to claim their properties in case they were already sold to other buyers.
However, he said they will give chance to the owners before they will start auctioning off the properties.
Their records show a total of P400 million in delinquent payments remain uncollected by the previous administration despite the demand letters the city government sent.
He said all delinquent tax payers will be notified through the local newspapers.
Bañez said that they will show no mercy in dealing with the real property tax non-payers.
Bañez added that they will be requiring all establishments with a gross receipts of P300,000 to submit their financial statements, Income Tax Return, and VAT returns as early as this year to catch up with the deadline on January 20.
He said the scheduled date in paying taxes will start on January 2 to January 20, 2014.
