DESPITE the last minute memorandum of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) national chapter to reset the election in Misamis Oriental, the ABC’s provincial chapter elected its president and other officers Wednesday.
The election, attended by 13 ABC municipal presidents with 12 presidents not in attendance, was held at Marco Hotel in Barangay Cugman.
Elected as the new ABC provincial president was Mario Charlie Emano, who’s a relative of provincial Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano.
Emano, the ABC municipal president of Tagoloan, won by 13 votes. He ran unopposed.
He said this is the first time a representative from Tagoloan will sit as ex-officio member at the Provincial Board.
Also elected were Leonard Winstanley, vice president and Loui Mark Neri, auditor.
The new members of the board of directors are Rued Sacabin, Guiles Waslo, Edwin Ramonal, Charlito Eugenio, Tiny Rowel Maghanoy and Proceso Ada.
After declaring them as winners the newly elected officials took their oath to the governor.
Provincial board member Nancy Madjos said Emano will immediately take over the post of past ABC provincial president Arsenio Kho Jr.
Kho was among the 12 ABC municipal presidents who did not show up during the election.
Lawyer Carlito Ravelo, provincial election officer, explained that it was the choice of the 12 municipal presidents not to participate in the ABC provincial election.
Ravelo added that even with the absence of the 12 municipal presidents, the election was legal.
Meanwhile, Rene Burdeos, Department of the Interior and Local Government in Northern Mindanao (DILG) regional director, said the election was made possible even with absence of the 13 municipal presidents.
Burdeos emphasized that the election is considered legal as DILG supervise the proceedings.
He said it is the call of the ABC national chapter whether to recognize Emano or discard his newly attained position.
It can be recalled that Kho, through a letter, requested DILG Secretary Mar Roxas to postpone the ABC provincial election since he believed that the election committee has not been organized.
