'Habal-habal' driver robbed, shot-A A +A

A MAN is in critical condition after he was robbed and shot by still unidentified attackers at Zayas in Barangay Carmen late afternoon on Sunday, three days before the New Year.
The victim was identified as Roldan Lavella, 43, married and a resident of Upper Carmen.
Lavella sustained a single shot in the lower chest, the Carmen police said.
Initial police investigation showed that Lavella, a ‘habal-habal’ (motorcycle for hire) driver, was on his way home on board his motorcycle when two motorcycle-riding men pointed a gun at the victim and told him to pull over.
Upon pulling over, one of the suspects disembarked and declared a hold-up.
When Lavella refused to hand his belongings, he was shot by the one of the assailants using a firearm of still undetermined caliber.
Authorities have yet to find out the items taken away from Lavella.
The victim was sent to the J.R. Borja Memorial Hospital for treatment, but was later transferred to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) on Sunday midnight.
Arturo Lavella, the victim’s father, said his son has no enemies or a standing grudge with someone.
The Carmen police is still puzzled as to the identity of the suspects, but vowed to deepen their investigation for the early arrest of the perpetrators.
According to Michael Baclayo, a habal-habal driver, the latest incident has put them in a bad light.
Baclayo said what happened to Lavella will definitely make people fear riding habal-habal.
At press time, Lavella has been declared out of danger.
